Why Choose Us

why choose frontier trails summer kids camp

Camp Family
We are made to live life together. This is why we love friends and family, and it is why we want our children to make life-long friends. Camp is a great place to form these special friendships.  Camp is unique, in schools, children form alliances, and they often only make friendships with those in the class room. But at camp we live life together, every day and every summer, often campers will plan their summer camp around the times their camp friends can attend. Each year we see many children coming back to camp, anxious to see the friends they have made in previous summers; friendships that have lasted through the school year, even when they live in different cities or go to different schools.
Frontier Trails is a Small Camp.  Large camps aren’t necessarily bad, but it’s easy for campers to get lost in the crowd when you are one of hundreds of campers. At Frontier Trails, we view our summer camp program size of 40-60 campers as a great asset.  We know your child by name and we will be able to help him or her meet their individual needs and goals.   We are a family, and you can see how that is much more achievable at a smaller camp.
For overnight Retreats we have a much higher capacity with room for over 100 people in winterized rooms and some cabins as well.

What do the directors look for when Hiring Counselors?
Counselors are the foundation of any camp and its safety is directly linked to their skills. The moment your child walks in the dorm, they look up to their counsellor as a mentor and a leader.  By limiting our enrolment we are able to be extremely selective in choosing our staff. We do this because we feel strongly that the counselors are the most important part of a great camp. It is their skills that will be the foundation of safety in our programs; it is their personalities and caring and sense of adventure that will inspire campers to "reach beyond their grasp" and try new things.  FTC counsellors’ average age last summer was twenty, and many began have grown up attending camp. The Staff are a fun filled, outgoing and energetic group of young people and they are excited to introduce your child to the most FUN and MEMORY filled growing experience of their life.

How Experienced are the Camp Directors?

Dave and Marie Tubby are in their 35th year as full time Director and Administrator of Frontier Trails Camp.  Both have spent their teenage and college years, working with kids, youth, and special needs groups. They both have continued to work over the years in Eganville and surrounding areas with different communities in our area. Dave and Marie have 6 children who grew up and worked at camp over the years and 3 of these children are still working at the camp with them.
More information on our Camp Staff can be found on our Staff page.

How Long has the Camp been in Business?
Frontier Trails was founded in 1976 by Dave & Marie Tubby. Frontier Trails was originally located in Fernleigh until 1986, and then moved to the present location in Eganville with 100 acres of property on the beautiful Bonnechere River.  In 1996 Frontier Trails was registered as a non-profit camp. This will be our 35th year of operation and is still directed by the Tubby family.

What are the Camp’s Accreditations?
Frontier Trails is an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association, Christian Camping International, the Canadian Red Cross, and the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association.
Please contact the camp office if you have any more questions.

I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone there.  My daughter Madison had a fabulous time there this past week!  She has been raving about it ever since.  She has attended camp for the past 2 years and your camp truly outdid the other one.  She will definitely be returning next year!

Hello, my name is Emily and I attended your camp for 5 years, when I was a child, and one of the most memorable things were the camp songs. Unfortunately i have forgotten the lyrics to two of my favourites, and I was hoping you could send them to me. They are Peace like a river and Jeremy Obadiah If you could send the lyrics to I would be forever grateful Thank you for giving me the best summers of my life!

I LOVE THIS CAMP. its the bomb. I meet great people and have the time of my life. I always wanna be at camp, And if anythings going on, when I go to camp i'm in the country, I'm relaxing, and having the time of my life. So I don't have to have any worries. FTC is my fave place to be. And I heart Bambie forver. & Big Al's gorgoeus. (L) gooo ftc goo :)

This camp is great if your child loves horses or swimming or crafts or interactive games or sports or even EXTREME sports (such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing etc.). I was a camper for 7 years and looked forward all year to this camp. My favourite thing at camp was the friends I made and the wonderful staff that was always smiling and having a great time with us. It's a stay over camp too so we got to know everybody there at a personal level which was great. As a kid at Frontier Trails camp you're always busy, there's always something going on that you can be a part of so don't worry about your child being bored at FTC. For the overall experience it's totally worth the cost to send your child to Frontier Trails camp. Your kid(s) will leave with the satisfaction of having such a great time and having met so many great people, and with the yearning to come back the following summer. I know because I've been there since I was 7 and now I'm a camp counsellor and I'm still loving it.
